A Connecticut man has admitted guilt in a U.S. District Court in Bangor for possessing ammunition as a felon. Yardley Davis, 39, was identified during an incident that occurred in December 2021.
Court records indicate that a Penobscot County Sheriff's Office deputy noticed mismatched license plates on a vehicle parked on the roadside in Greenbush. Upon stopping the vehicle, it was discovered that the driver had been operating after license suspension and informed authorities that Davis, who fled the scene, had two guns with him. The driver quoted Davis saying he would face jail time if caught with them.
The next day, law enforcement was alerted by a homeowner who found gloves, a ski mask, and rope near their property. A search ensued, leading to Davis being found in nearby woods and hospitalized for hypothermia treatment. Further investigation by a K9 unit uncovered two 9mm handguns and 45 rounds of ammunition in the area. Forensic analysis confirmed Davis's DNA on both firearms.
Davis is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to a prior conviction for robbery in the first degree from 2005 in Connecticut Superior Court.
Davis could face up to ten years imprisonment along with a fine of $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release post-incarceration. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutory considerations.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with support from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police.
