A Vicksburg man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Marquette Cornell McCroy, 43, was found with a firearm following a traffic stop in Vicksburg. As the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, McCroy attempted to flee on foot and discarded the weapon during his escape attempt.
McCroy had previously been convicted of a felony, which prohibited him from possessing firearms. He was indicted by a federal grand jury and entered a guilty plea on October 3, 2024.
The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon and Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The investigation involved collaboration between the Vicksburg Police Department and the FBI.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Bert Carraway led the prosecution in this case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). This program aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by uniting law enforcement at all levels with communities to enhance safety. Launched on May 26, 2021, PSN focuses on fostering community trust, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
