Robert Paul Anthony Aragon, a 31-year-old resident of California, has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit.
Court records indicate that Aragon was stopped for a traffic violation in Owyhee County. During the stop, a K9 trained in detecting controlled substances conducted an open-air sniff around his vehicle and alerted officers to the presence of drugs. A subsequent search revealed 25 pounds of methamphetamine, 2.2 pounds (one kilo) of cocaine, and a Glock 27 firearm with an extended magazine carrying 22 rounds of ammunition.
Senior U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill also ordered Aragon to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term.
U.S. Attorney Hurwit praised the efforts of several law enforcement agencies: "I commend the work of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Nampa Police Department Special Investigations Unit, the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Idaho State Police," which were instrumental in leading to Aragon's charges and arrest. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Morse prosecuted this case.
