Madison Carrig, a 30-year-old resident of Whitehall, New York, has been sentenced to four months in prison by the United States District Court in Burlington. The sentence follows her guilty plea to charges of access device fraud. Chief U.S. District Judge Christina Reiss also ordered Carrig to pay $141,000 in restitution and serve three years of supervised release after completing her prison term. Carrig is required to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on March 18.

The United States Attorney's Office filed charges against Carrig last July for two counts of access device fraud. She pleaded guilty in August. According to court documents, from September 2022 until February 2023, Carrig worked as an office manager at two automobile dealerships in central Vermont. Her responsibilities included overseeing accounting activities, signing checks, initiating wire transfers, and making deposits into the dealerships' bank accounts. She was also authorized to use a company credit card for business-related purchases.

Between February 2023 and November 27, 2023, Carrig held the position of controller at another dealership located in Rutland, Vermont. Similar to her previous roles, she had authority over financial transactions and possessed a company credit card for business purposes.

During her employment at these dealerships, Carrig embezzled approximately $140,000 by misappropriating cash receipts from customers and using company credit cards for personal expenses.

The investigation was conducted by the Vermont State Police. Natasha Sen represents Madison Carrig as her attorney while Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Waples serves as the prosecutor.
