A Dulce man has pleaded guilty to assault charges following a domestic dispute. Orlyn Vigil, 48, who is an enrolled member of the Jicarilla Apache Nation, admitted in court documents to attacking Jane Doe on November 16, 2021.
Vigil acknowledged becoming upset during an argument and assaulting Jane Doe. He confessed to striking her, placing his hands around her neck, and throwing her into trash cans, which caused her head to hit the bar of the trash can holder. When Jane Doe tried to call the police outside, Vigil pushed her from behind. As she walked toward her vehicle, he used his vehicle to knock her down at a slow speed.
Currently on conditional release, Vigil awaits sentencing with no date scheduled yet. He could face up to 10 years in prison upon sentencing.
U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez announced the plea. The case was investigated by the Jicarilla Apache Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Mia Ulibarri-Rubin and Nicholas J. Marshall.
