Raleigh County woman pleads guilty to fentanyl distribution charges

Melanie E. Hussain, a 25-year-old resident of Crab Orchard, has pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl. Court documents reveal that on November 2, 2022, Hussain sold approximately 4.2 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant for $300. The following day, she sold 2.3 grams of methamphetamine to the same informant for an additional $300. Both transactions took place at her residence.

Hussain is set to be sentenced on June 12, 2025. She faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine up to $1 million.

United States Attorney Will Thompson praised the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit for their investigative efforts. This unit includes officers from the West Virginia State Police, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, and the Beckley Police Department.

The hearing was overseen by United States Magistrate Judge Omar J. Aboulhosn, with Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons handling prosecution duties.
