United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg has announced that Jeremy Wayne Leggett, a 38-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida, has pleaded guilty to attempting to entice a child into sexual activity. Leggett is a registered child sex offender, previously convicted in 2020 for traveling to meet a minor for unlawful sexual acts and transmitting harmful materials to a minor. He was arrested on June 19, 2023, and remains in custody awaiting sentencing on April 28, 2025. Leggett faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison with the possibility of life imprisonment and a potential lifetime term of supervised release.
Court documents reveal that on June 16, 2023, an undercover FBI agent posed as a minor online to identify individuals seeking sexual contact with children. The agent engaged with an app user known as "dAddi," later identified as Leggett, who posted about wanting to "spoil" someone underage. Believing he was communicating with a 13-year-old, Leggett asked if the "child" liked older men and sent photos of himself before suggesting they meet for sexual activity.
On June 19, arrangements were made for Leggett to meet the supposed child at a location in Jacksonville. Upon arriving and driving around the area for approximately half an hour, law enforcement attempted contact. Leggett fled but was soon apprehended by officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and FBI agents at a residence in Jacksonville.
The investigation involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown is prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims. More information can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.
