United States Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced the sentencing of Victor Manuel Osorto-Lopez, a 40-year-old Honduran national, for illegal reentry into the United States. Osorto-Lopez was sentenced on January 30, 2025, following his guilty plea to charges under Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).
Court documents reveal that Osorto-Lopez was deported from the United States twice, first on December 4, 2009, and again on September 3, 2012. He was later discovered in the Eastern District of Louisiana on March 14, 2024. At that time, he had not obtained permission from either the Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to reenter the country.
U.S. District Judge Barry W. Ashe handed down a sentence of six months imprisonment for Osorto-Lopez. Following his prison term, he will serve one year of supervised release and must pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
The investigation leading to this sentencing was conducted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Assistant United States Attorney Jon M. Maestri from the General Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
