Oregon Attorney General critiques federal stance on gender-affirming care

State AG

Attorney General Rayfield has voiced concerns over the federal administration's recent order, which he believes limits access to gender-affirming care. He stated, "We believe everyone has the right to privacy to make their own informed health care decisions with their family and care provider. They also deserve the right to access the care they need to stay healthy."

Rayfield described the order as a political move that targets vulnerable individuals, saying, "This order is a clear example of the administration imposing its political agenda at the expense of some of the most vulnerable people."

The Attorney General emphasized that his office is closely monitoring how this order will be implemented and its potential impact on Oregon families. He remarked, "We are monitoring the circumstances of this order very closely to better understand how the administration may implement it and how that implementation will impact Oregon families." Rayfield further noted that depending on how the order is carried out, it could influence their strategy in safeguarding access to necessary healthcare services. He affirmed, "How the order is implemented will impact how we approach our work to protect access to care. All legal options are on the table at this point."
