A Mexican citizen, Jesus Maldonado-Lopez, aged 38, has pled guilty to the charge of reentry of a removed alien. This announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans on January 16, 2025. The violation is in accordance with Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(b)(1).
Court documents reveal that Maldonado-Lopez had previously been deported to Mexico on May 29, 2008. He was found in the New Orleans area on or around July 29, 2024. His prior felony conviction involved transporting illegal aliens within the United States.
Maldonado-Lopez could face a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000. Additionally, he may receive up to three years of supervised release and must pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. Sentencing is scheduled for April 15, 2025, under U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey.
