A federal grand jury has indicted an Orange County man, Michel Joseph Abdallah, for allegedly distributing fentanyl, which led to the overdose deaths of two individuals in 2023. The indictment charges Abdallah with six counts: two counts of distribution of fentanyl resulting in death, two counts of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and two counts of possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes.
Abdallah, also known as "Mike," is 21 years old and resides in Laguna Niguel. His arraignment is anticipated to take place soon at the United States District Court in Santa Ana. He is currently held in state custody.
The indictment details that on March 25, 2023, Abdallah distributed fentanyl to a victim identified as "C.R." in Mission Viejo. The use of the drug resulted in C.R.'s fatal overdose. On May 15, 2023, another incident occurred where Abdallah allegedly provided fentanyl to "L.F." in Aliso Viejo, leading to L.F.'s death after ingesting the opioid.
Further allegations include Abdallah's possession of approximately 1.3 kilograms (2.9 pounds) of fentanyl on June 10, 2023. On this date, he reportedly had two firearms in his possession as well; one was an AR-15-style pistol without a serial number commonly referred to as a "ghost gun."
It is important to note that an indictment serves only as an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Should Abdallah be convicted on all charges, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years and could receive up to life imprisonment.
The investigation into this case involves the Drug Enforcement Administration along with local law enforcement agencies including the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the Santa Ana Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Lisa J. Lindhorst from the Orange County Office will be prosecuting this case.
