The Newport District Court has been closed indefinitely due to potentially unsafe building conditions, according to an announcement from the Judicial Branch. The court, located at 12 Water Street in Newport, will remain inaccessible to the public until further notice.

In response to the situation, all in-person proceedings and the clerk's office have been temporarily relocated to the Penobscot Judicial Center at 78 Exchange Street in Bangor. Despite this change, cases filed in Newport will continue to be managed separately from those filed in Bangor.

For those needing to contact the Newport District Court, the telephone number remains unchanged and calls are being automatically redirected to the temporary office in Bangor. Correspondence should still be sent to the original address on Water Street; it will be collected and forwarded accordingly.

Zoom hearings and telephonic hearings are proceeding as scheduled with no changes required for connection details provided in hearing notices.

Updates on this matter will be available on the Judicial Branch's website.
