Jermaine Brown, 19, and Alvin McGee, 23, both residents of Memphis, have been sentenced to federal prison for possession of machineguns. Acting United States Attorney Reagan Fondren announced the sentences.

Court records reveal that on July 10, 2023, officers from the Memphis Police Department observed Brown and McGee driving a stolen Hyundai Sonata in the Kensington Manor apartment complex. As police attempted to stop them, the vehicle reached a dead end. Both individuals exited the moving car, which then collided with a dumpster.

Jermaine Brown was found with a Glock .40 caliber pistol equipped with a Machinegun Conversion Device—commonly known as a "switch"—and loaded with 17 rounds. After a brief foot chase, he discarded the weapon. Alvin McGee possessed a Radical Firearms AR-15 style .223 caliber rifle fitted with approximately 60 rounds and an auto sear device that converts it into a machinegun. He also fled but was quickly apprehended by officers.

In December 2023, both men were indicted for possession of machineguns. Brown pled guilty on July 12, 2024 before Senior United States District Judge Jon Phipps McCalla and received his sentence on November 8, 2024: 27 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.

McGee entered his guilty plea on October 18, 2024 before Judge McCalla and was sentenced on January 24, 2025 to serve 41 months in federal prison along with three years of supervised release.

"There is no parole in the federal system," stated officials involved in this case.

The investigation was conducted by the Memphis Police Department alongside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Greg Wagner prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Acting United States Attorney Fondren expressed gratitude towards law enforcement partners who contributed to this case's resolution.
