Husan Thurston and Alton Pernell, both residents of Washington, D.C., have been sentenced for their involvement in a burglary at a Gucci store in Northwest D.C. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Thurston, aged 32, received a sentence of two years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Pernell, aged 28, was sentenced to two years in prison with six months suspended, followed by one year of supervised probation. Both individuals pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary on November 19, 2024.
The incident occurred on September 9, 2024, when law enforcement observed a group attempting to break into the Gucci store located on the 1000 block of I Street NW after business hours. Surveillance footage captured Thurston and Pernell forcing entry into the store and stealing handbags from display stands.
Officers arrived at the scene as Thurston and Pernell attempted to flee but were apprehended inside the store.
U.S. Attorney Martin and Chief Smith praised the Metropolitan Police Department's efforts in investigating the case. They also acknowledged Assistant U.S. Attorneys Hannah Skopicki and Elizabeth Ginsburg for prosecuting the case.
