A Shelby County man, Sean Patrick Gifford, has been sentenced to 270 months in federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. The sentence was handed down on January 14, 2025.

Court documents reveal that on January 2, 2024, law enforcement engaged in a high-speed chase with Gifford through Harlan and Avoca, which included Interstate 80. Later that month, on January 31, another pursuit occurred where Gifford was found with over 190 grams of methamphetamine and $29,845. Forensic examination of his cell phone confirmed his participation in drug trafficking activities and connected him to the distribution of 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Upon completion of his prison term, Gifford will undergo a five-year supervised release period. The federal system does not offer parole.

The announcement came from United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal for the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation involved the Council Bluffs Police Department, Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, and Iowa State Patrol.
