Eulises Yobani Rafael-Garcia, a 28-year-old Mexican citizen residing in Gary, Indiana, has been sentenced by United States District Court Judge Philip P. Simon. The sentence follows Rafael-Garcia's guilty plea to the felony charge of illegal re-entry into the United States.

Rafael-Garcia has been in custody since his arrest on April 5, 2024. He was sentenced to time served and will be transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.

Court documents reveal that Rafael-Garcia had previously been removed from the United States three times and has a prior conviction for misdemeanor illegal entry. During the investigation, he admitted to having past associations with drug-trafficking organizations.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations with support from National Park Service Law Enforcement Rangers. Assistance was provided by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the United States Marshals Service, Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis Sohn prosecuted the case.
