A Mexican citizen, aged 22, has been sentenced for possessing child pornography, according to acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer B. Lowery. Kevin Alejandro Santos-Moya admitted guilt on May 30, 2024.
U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. sentenced Santos-Moya to five years in federal prison and ordered him to pay $3,000 in restitution to a known victim. Following his imprisonment, he will be subject to ten years of supervised release with strict conditions limiting his access to children and the internet. He must also register as a sex offender.
Santos-Moya was apprehended on June 30, 2023, when he attempted entry into the United States via the Los Indios Port of Entry. A secondary inspection led law enforcement to search his iPhone, uncovering child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Forensic analysis revealed 31 images and 37 videos of CSAM on his device.
He will remain in custody until transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ana C. Cano prosecuted the case under Project Safe Childhood (PSC), an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide.
