Avante Greene, a 23-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to five years in prison for a series of burglaries at Lululemon stores. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). In addition to his prison term, Greene will serve one year of supervised probation as ordered by Superior Court Judge Andrea Hertzfeld.
Greene pleaded guilty on October 31, 2024, to three counts of attempted second-degree burglary. According to the evidence presented by the government, Greene's crime spree began on July 10, 2024. He entered a Lululemon store on F Street NW with an empty bag that he filled with merchandise before fleeing in a getaway car. Two days later, he targeted another Lululemon store in Georgetown with two unidentified accomplices and repeated the theft using empty bags.
On July 16, 2024, Greene returned to the F Street NW location with one accomplice and again stole merchandise using his previous method. The total value of stolen goods exceeded $10,000.
Greene was apprehended on July 19, 2024, while driving the getaway vehicle and has remained in custody since his arrest.
U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr., along with Chief Smith, commended the investigative efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department and acknowledged Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn Benton for her role in prosecuting the case.
