A man from Espanola, Jeremy Isaac Lopez, was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for drug trafficking offenses. Lopez was found with various controlled substances after his arrest by the Pueblo of Pojoaque Tribal Police Department at the Cities of Gold Casino on April 19, 2023. His arrest followed a violation of pretrial release conditions related to state charges for armed robbery.

Lopez attempted to flee when approached by officers, leading to a crash into a parked vehicle. A subsequent search revealed methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, suspected suboxone, and numerous small clear baggies in his possession.

U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Albuquerque Field Office, announced the sentencing. "There is no parole in the federal system," they noted.

The investigation was conducted by the Santa Fe Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Pueblo of Pojoaque Tribal Police Department and Chief Freddie Trujillo. The Espanola Police Department also contributed to the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert James Booth II is handling prosecution.

Upon completion of his prison term, Lopez will undergo three years of supervised release.
