A Sacramento man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for committing two armed robberies of financial institutions. United States District Judge Miranda M. Du handed down the sentence, which includes five years of supervised release following imprisonment.

Devon Jones, aged 32, admitted guilt to charges including interference with commerce by robbery, bank robbery, and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

Court documents reveal that on January 24, 2022, Jones robbed a money lending business in Reno. During this incident, he brandished a semi-automatic 9mm pistol at an employee and demanded cash. He fired a shot before fleeing the scene with money. Just days later, on January 27, 2022, Jones committed another robbery at a bank in Carson City. He entered the bank yelling and discharged his weapon. After demanding money from a teller and firing additional shots when alarm lights activated, he ordered employees to the ground before escaping with stolen funds.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Jason M. Frierson for the District of Nevada alongside Special Agent in Charge Spencer L. Evans for the FBI.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation into these crimes. Assistant United States Attorney Megan Rachow prosecuted the case.
