Edwin Alonso Cuadros Bravo, a former resident of Sacramento, has pleaded guilty to charges of interstate and international kidnapping conspiracy. Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith announced the plea.
Court documents reveal that in November 2021, Cuadros Bravo and his wife, Yulisa Alexsandra Guevara Wintong, abducted their six-year-old grandchild from Sacramento and took the child to Peru. Despite requests from the child's mother, they did not return the victim to the United States until December 2022 when government intervention facilitated the child's return to Sacramento.
Cuadros Bravo remains in custody following his initial court appearance. Meanwhile, Guevara Wintong has yet to appear in court to face charges. It is important to note that these charges are allegations; she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case results from an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with support from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Veronica M.A. Alegría is leading the prosecution.
Cuadros Bravo's sentencing is scheduled for April 21, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd. He faces a maximum statutory penalty of life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. However, the actual sentence will be determined by the court after considering applicable statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
