A Farmington man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a fatal shooting incident that occurred in 2021 on the Navajo Nation. Hanson Tsosie, aged 34 and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, was found guilty of using a 12-gauge shotgun to fire multiple rounds into a group of individuals gathered near a tree at a residence close to Nenahnezad, New Mexico. The attack resulted in the death of one woman and serious injury to another.

Court documents reveal that neither victim posed any threat to Tsosie; they were innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. Following the shooting, Tsosie fled approximately 46 miles to dispose of his vehicle.

U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced the sentence. Upon completion of his prison term, Tsosie will be subjected to five years of supervised release.

The case was investigated by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mark A. Probasco and Matthew J. McGinley are prosecuting this case.
