Orlando residents sentenced for bank fraud using stolen mail

Orlando, Florida – U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton has sentenced Jamel Williams and Levar Baker to federal prison for their roles in a conspiracy involving bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. Williams, aged 26 from Altamonte Springs, received a sentence of four years and six months. Baker, aged 21 from Orlando, was sentenced to three years and six months. Both individuals had previously entered guilty pleas on August 21 and September 17, 2024.

Court documents reveal that between March and August 2023, Williams and Baker engaged in criminal activities involving stolen mail. They altered the payees on checks obtained through this stolen mail and negotiated these checks at various banks throughout the Middle District of Florida. The fraudulent actions resulted in losses amounting to $307,185.65 for their victims.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service along with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Kara Wick prosecuted the case.
