A Corpus Christi man has been sentenced to federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

Jose Humberto Morales, 45, pleaded guilty on October 24, 2024. U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos sentenced Morales to 130 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. During the hearing, the court considered additional evidence of Morales' extensive criminal history dating back to 1996, which includes more than ten state convictions for burglary. The court noted the serious and recidivist nature of his criminal behavior when handing down the sentence.

On May 5, 2023, law enforcement observed Morales, an identified gang member with active arrest warrants, outside a residence in Corpus Christi. He was arrested on those warrants and found to be in possession of three separate baggies containing methamphetamine.

Morales possessed over 50 grams of methamphetamine and later admitted in a recorded jail call that the drugs were intended for distribution.

He will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Corpus Christi Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Martin prosecuted the case.
