Brian Neil Wiggins, a 50-year-old resident of Casper, Wyoming, has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison. The sentence was delivered by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl on January 10 in Casper. Wiggins will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.
The charges against Wiggins included being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The case stemmed from an investigation initiated by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in March 2024 after receiving information that Wiggins was involved in selling methamphetamine and carrying firearms despite his status as a convicted felon.
On March 22, 2024, law enforcement officers searched Wiggins' truck and property during a scheduled meeting with his parole officer in Casper. They discovered a Taurus 9mm handgun, approximately 160 fentanyl pills, suspected methamphetamine weighing 167 grams, a digital scale, and small baggies. A subsequent search of his apartment revealed liquid methamphetamine, a Glock .40 caliber handgun with an obliterated serial number, a high-capacity magazine for a 9mm gun, and drug paraphernalia.
Wiggins was indicted on May 16, 2024, and entered a guilty plea on August 27 of the same year. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives collaborated with DCI in investigating the crime. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paige Hammer led the prosecution.
