Two Albuquerque residents have pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the sale of fentanyl. Miguel Antonio Ramirez, 23, and Isaiah Anthony Aragon, 24, were involved in a scheme to sell approximately 30,000 fentanyl pills for $30,000 to an undercover law enforcement agent.
The incident occurred on December 6, 2023. Ramirez drove to Aragon's home in Albuquerque where Aragon handed over a tan plastic bag containing the pills. When DEA agents approached their vehicle, Aragon attempted to escape but was captured shortly thereafter. A search of his residence revealed $61,024 in cash along with an electronic money counter and a digital scale.
Laboratory tests confirmed that the pills contained fentanyl weighing about 3,217 grams.
U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Towanda R. Thorne-James from the Drug Enforcement Administration El Paso Division announced these developments.
The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration with support from the Albuquerque Police Department. The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico is handling prosecution.
