Jacksonville, Florida – A Jacksonville man, Jucory Randell Kirtsey, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The sentence was delivered by Senior United States District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan. Kirtsey had entered a guilty plea on September 5, 2024.

Court documents revealed that on September 6, 2023, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Kirtsey's residence due to suspected narcotics activity. During the search, officers found a loaded Taurus pistol in the home. Kirtsey admitted to possessing the weapon. As a convicted felon with more than ten felony convictions related to narcotic sales and trafficking, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.

The investigation involved several agencies: the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office; and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched an enhanced strategy for PSN focusing on fostering trust within communities, supporting community-based violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
