U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero | U.S. Department of Justice

United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced the sentencing of Kyle Teat, a 34-year-old resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Teat received a sentence of 46 months in prison and three years of supervised release for firearms offenses. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge John M. Younge.

Teat had pleaded guilty in July of the previous year to charges related to dealing in firearms without a license and possession of a firearm by a felon. These charges stemmed from an incident in October 2019 when Teat unlawfully possessed and sold a semiautomatic rifle capable of accepting a large-capacity magazine to an undercover federal agent.

U.S. Attorney Romero emphasized the importance of removing firearms from individuals who are not legally permitted to possess them, stating, "Kyle Teat knew that he wasn’t supposed to possess a firearm, given his criminal record, and he certainly knew he wasn’t permitted to sell one." She added that efforts to combat violent crime in Philadelphia would continue with determination: "Getting guns away from people who shouldn’t have them is critical to battling violent crime in Philadelphia. My office and our partners will use every tool at our disposal to do so, as we work to make the city safer."

The investigation into this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Philadelphia Police Department. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.
