Luis Angel Gerardo Urias, a 27-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona, has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. The sentence was handed down by Chief United States District Judge Christina Reiss on January 6, 2025. Gerardo Urias had previously pleaded guilty to the charge.

The case involved a methamphetamine distribution network that spanned from Arizona to Vermont and included over 4.5 kilograms of the drug. According to court records, Gerardo Urias and his co-conspirators shipped methamphetamine to Vermont and distributed it to an undercover agent in Arizona. They also received drug proceeds both in cash and through money transfer services from Vermont.

A search warrant executed at Gerardo Urias's residence in Phoenix on March 15, 2023, led law enforcement to recover two firearms—a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and an assault-style rifle—along with ammunition.

United States Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest praised the investigative efforts of several agencies: Homeland Security Investigations, United States Border Patrol, United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Winooski Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew C. Gilman prosecuted the case while Karen R. Shingler represented Gerardo Urias.
