Brice Allen Pomeroy, a 26-year-old resident of Hernshaw, has pleaded guilty to obstructing mail. The incident took place on May 11, 2023, when Pomeroy disposed of approximately 227 pieces of mail by placing them in a trash can outside a gas station in Charleston. At the time, he was working as a mail handler for a United States Postal Service vendor in Charleston.
Pomeroy is set to be sentenced on April 24, 2025. He could face up to six months in prison, one year of supervised release, and a $5,000 fine. Additionally, he is required to pay $2,051.21 in restitution.
United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the plea and praised the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for their investigative efforts. The hearing was overseen by United States District Judge Irene C. Berger with Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan T. Storage prosecuting the case.
