United States Attorney Susan Lehr has announced the sentencing of Shaquille Moniz, a 31-year-old resident of Walthill, Nebraska. Moniz was sentenced on January 3, 2025, in federal court in Omaha for domestic assault by an habitual offender in Indian Country. Chief United States District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down a sentence of 37 months' imprisonment to Moniz. Following his release from prison, Moniz will be subject to a three-year term of supervised release.

The charges stem from an incident in April 2024 when Moniz assaulted his then-girlfriend, causing substantial bodily injury. At the time of this offense, Moniz had prior convictions for domestic violence offenses in both state and tribal courts.

The case was prosecuted at the federal level due to its status as a felony committed on the Omaha Nation Indian Reservation in Nebraska. The investigation into the matter was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
