A former track athlete has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for firearms offenses. U.S. District Court Judge David S. Leibowitz imposed a 240-month sentence on Olivier Ricardy Alexandre, who pled guilty to possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
Alexandre's criminal activities included an incident on March 13, 2023, when he fired at least 18 rounds at a victim entering his home in Miami-Dade County. The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) linked the shell casings from this event to three previous shootings involving the same gun.
On March 21, 2023, Alexandre was involved in another confrontation where he retrieved a handgun with an extended drum magazine during an encounter with a tow truck driver at his residence. This led to his arrest by officers from the Plantation Police Department.
U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe announced the sentencing alongside officials from various law enforcement agencies, including Special Agent Christopher A. Robinson of the ATF and Acting Inspector Steven Hodges of USPIS. The investigation received assistance from multiple local police departments.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce gun violence through strategic law enforcement and community engagement initiatives.
