U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe announces resignation effective January 17

For the past two years, Markenzy Lapointe has served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. On January 6, 2025, he announced his resignation from this position, effective January 17, 2025.

Lapointe expressed that serving as United States Attorney has been an honor and privilege. He stated, "I have strived to meet the responsibilities of this position with vigor, determination, commitment, thoughtfulness, and humility."

Reflecting on his personal history as a native of Haiti who immigrated to Miami's Liberty City neighborhood during his teens, Lapointe noted the significance of holding a role central to the Department of Justice’s mission. He emphasized how meaningful it was to work alongside talented lawyers and professional staff at the United States Attorney’s Office and with various law enforcement agencies.

Lapointe extended gratitude towards these public servants for their dedication in safeguarding communities and institutions. "I have never stopped being inspired by them and always will cherish my time as part of this deeply noble undertaking," he said.

Acknowledging those who supported him throughout his tenure, Lapointe thanked President Joseph R. Biden, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Rick Scott, and other community leaders for their trust in him.
