Officer-involved incident in Madison under investigation by state authorities

The Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is currently investigating an officer-involved incident in Madison, Wisconsin. The event took place on the evening of December 30, 2024.

According to reports, at approximately 8:22 p.m., officers from the Madison Police Department responded to a vehicle theft at the Best Western on Annamark Drive. A foot chase followed involving an adult male suspect who was subsequently apprehended. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to assess the suspect and deemed him fit for transport by law enforcement to the Dane County Jail. However, upon arrival at the jail, the suspect was found unresponsive and was taken to a local hospital where he remains under care. No weapons were fired during this incident.

In line with agency policy, the involved officers will be placed on administrative leave.

The DCI is leading this investigation with assistance from a DCI Crime Response Specialist. All law enforcement agencies involved are cooperating fully with the DCI as they continue to gather evidence and establish facts related to this case. Upon completion of their investigation, the findings will be submitted to the Dane County District Attorney’s office.
