A Salyersville man, Daniel Jackson, 57, has been sentenced to 97 months in prison for methamphetamine and fentanyl trafficking. Chief U.S. District Judge Danny Reeves delivered the sentence after Jackson's conviction for possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
The case stems from a traffic stop on February 7, 2024, where law enforcement found over 70 grams of methamphetamine in Jackson's vehicle. After his arrest, Jackson attempted to dispose of a bag containing fentanyl inside the police car.
Under federal law, Jackson is required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. Following his release, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for five years.
Carlton S. Shier IV, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Jim Scott, Special Agent in Charge at DEA Louisville Field Division; and William "Bill" Meade, Magoffin County Sheriff announced the sentencing jointly.
The investigation involved the DEA, Magoffin County Sheriff's Office, and Operation UNITE. Assistant U.S. Attorney Drew Trimble is handling prosecution for the case.
