Eleven face federal charges for meth distribution in southern Illinois

Following an investigation into a drug trafficking network in southern Illinois, eleven individuals are now facing federal charges related to methamphetamine distribution across several counties. The accused include residents from both Illinois and Missouri.

Nigelle J. Bird, 32, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, has been charged with distributing meth in Jackson County. Nathan Behrens, 35, of Harrisburg faces charges for distribution in Williamson County. Darvon D. Ellis, 36, also from Harrisburg, is charged with two counts for activities in Saline and Williamson counties.

Jeffrey T. Dancy, 41, of Sparta is facing two counts for Perry County distributions. Blake Mann, 36, from Carrier Mills has been charged with two counts for Saline County. Desmond Nelson, 44, and Chanel Nelson, 47, both from Carrier Mills are each facing three counts for their alleged activities in Saline County.

Tony L. Goss Jr., 36 of Brookport; Kelsey M. Hesser, 27 of Smithland; and Autumn J. Lynn, 40 of Golconda are charged with conspiracy to distribute meth in Massac County along with additional charges specific to each individual.

Joe J. Taylor, 32 of Brookport is charged with two counts of distribution in Massac County and one count related to firearm possession as a felon.

U.S. Attorney Rachelle Aud Crowe stated that the accused were involved mainly across five rural counties in southern Illinois and emphasized the commitment of DEA agents and local law enforcement partners to identify and disrupt illegal drug operations.

Assistant Special Agent Joseph Dixon highlighted the DEA's dedication to removing such individuals from society by collaborating with law enforcement partners to dismantle criminal organizations.

It was noted that an indictment serves as a formal charge against a defendant who remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The investigation was led by the DEA with support from various agencies including the Carbondale Police Department and the Illinois State Police.
