A Newport, Kentucky man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. Antonio Fox, aged 37, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge David Bunning after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The case stemmed from an incident on May 23, 2024, when law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop on Fox's vehicle. During the search, officers discovered a loaded gun and an additional loaded magazine. Fox admitted to possessing the firearm despite knowing he was prohibited due to his prior felony convictions.

Fox's criminal history includes two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition by a felon in 2019 and possession with intent to distribute marijuana in 2010.

Under federal regulations, Fox is required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. After his release, he will be under supervision by the U.S. Probation Office for three years.

The sentencing was announced by Carlton S. Shier IV, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Shawn Morrow, Special Agent in Charge at ATF's Louisville Field Division; and Chief Brian Valenti of the Covington Police Department.

The investigation leading to this conviction was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) alongside the Covington Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Drew Spievack is handling the prosecution for this case.
