United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that Jeremy Crow, a 31-year-old man from Pine Ridge, South Dakota, has been sentenced to over six years in federal prison. U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler handed down the sentence on December 2, 2024, after Crow was convicted of five counts of assaulting a federal officer.
Crow received a sentence of 77 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release for each count. He was also ordered to pay $500 in special assessments to the Federal Crime Victims Fund for his convictions. The sentences and supervision periods are to be served concurrently.
The charges against Crow were brought by a federal grand jury in February 2024. He was found guilty following a jury trial in Rapid City in September 2024.
The incidents leading to Crow's arrest began on December 22, 2023, when a 911 call reported an issue in Pine Ridge. An officer from the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety responded and encountered Crow with an unknown female who had facial injuries. Believing Crow to be under the influence of drugs due to his behavior, the officer attempted to detain him. Crow resisted by pushing the officer and tried to drive off in a police vehicle before being stopped.
Despite efforts by law enforcement, including using a taser, Crow continued resisting arrest until backup arrived. During his arrest, he bit an officer and spat on another. On December 24, while incarcerated, Crow further assaulted corrections officers during an escape attempt.
The FBI investigated the case with Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Poppen prosecuting. Following his sentencing, Crow was placed into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
