The United States Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with the Tallahassee Police Department and Leon High School, is set to host a BLAST event on November 7 at Leon High School. The program aims to foster understanding between students and law enforcement officers by facilitating discussions on challenges and perspectives related to law enforcement.

The event will feature participation from various agencies, including the ATF, DEA, FBI, United States Marshals Service, and the Tallahassee Police Department. It is designed to replace doubt with familiarity and trust through productive interactions.

During the three-hour session, officers will discuss their experiences in responding to dangerous situations and how both officers and civilians can de-escalate such circumstances. The program includes several discussion sessions where students can engage in role-play activities with law enforcement officers.

The sessions include a Federal Crimes Scenario where students learn about federal criminal cases; a Domestic Response/K-9 Demonstration discussing domestic disturbances; a Traffic Stop Simulation focusing on de-escalation during traffic stops; Use of Force discussions on when force may be used by officers; and "The Way Forward - Returning from Prison," featuring a formerly incarcerated individual sharing his story.

Members of the media are invited to attend most segments of the BLAST program. They are encouraged to RSVP via email if they plan to cover the event.
