A Creston man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for the receipt of child pornography. According to public court documents, Bryan Michael Vannausdle, aged 34, communicated with a minor victim between September and November 2023. He used his cell phone to send, receive, and store images and videos of child sexual abuse material.

Upon completing his prison term, Vannausdle will undergo a five-year supervised release period. The federal system does not allow parole.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Creston Police Department, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, and Federal Bureau of Investigations.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project involves U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section working together with federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute individuals exploiting children online while also identifying victims.
