Montreal Proctor, a 34-year-old resident of Baltimore, Maryland, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. This sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow for charges related to the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The announcement was made by Erek L. Barron, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, in collaboration with Special Agent in Charge Toni M. Crosby from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and Commissioner Richard Worley from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD).

According to court documents, on June 30, 2022, Proctor was found walking through the 500 block of Chateau Avenue in Baltimore while armed with a loaded firearm. Upon encountering police officers patrolling the area, Proctor removed a loaded firearm from his waistband leading to a brief standoff before he eventually dropped the weapon and attempted to flee. He was subsequently arrested.

The firearm recovered was identified as a Ruger .40 caliber pistol loaded with more than ten rounds of ammunition. Proctor has previous convictions for violent offenses including attempted murder, first-degree assault, and attempted robbery. In addition to his federal sentence, he is also facing state charges for violating probation.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that aims to reduce violent crime by bringing together law enforcement agencies and communities. PSN focuses on addressing pressing violent crime issues through comprehensive solutions involving enforcement efforts against violent offenders alongside prevention and reentry programs.

U.S. Attorney Barron praised the work done by ATF and BPD in this investigation and extended thanks to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jason D. Medinger and Adeyemi Adenrele who prosecuted the case.
