A Colombian national has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States. Gustavo De Jesus Ramirez-Ramirez, aged 54, was sentenced by United States District Judge Wendy W. Berger after entering a guilty plea on September 16, 2024.

Court records reveal that Ramirez-Ramirez was arrested on November 11, 2022, in Jacksonville. He was found after rappelling from a hole in the ceiling of a business and drilling through three adjacent business walls into a jewelry store. He pleaded guilty in state court to burglary of a dwelling with damage and burglary of a structure. Following his arrest, authorities discovered that Ramirez-Ramirez was unlawfully present in the country.

Ramirez-Ramirez had been deported twice before, including once after a prior conviction for illegal reentry into the United States in October 2014.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brenna Falzetta.
