Jacob Matthew Staton, a 29-year-old resident of Muskogee, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 105 months in prison for attempted robbery in Indian Country. The sentencing was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Muskogee Police Department. Staton pleaded guilty on July 11, 2024. The incident occurred on January 4, 2020, when Staton attempted to rob a shopper at gunpoint in a parking lot in Muskogee. When the shopper refused, Staton assaulted them with his pistol and fired two shots as they fled. This event took place within Muskogee County, inside the boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation.

Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the hearing at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Staton will remain under the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transported to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his sentence without parole.

The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jordan Howanitz.
