U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced that Alexis Javier Centeno-Baez, 30, from Buffalo, New York, was sentenced to 120 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute over 40 grams of fentanyl. U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara delivered the sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, who managed the case, explained that in March 2017, Centeno-Baez received a 63-month prison sentence following a jury trial for conspiracy to possess and distribute over 500 grams of cocaine and attempted possession with intent to distribute the same amount. He was also given four years of supervised release.
On October 17, 2022, during a random home visit by a United States Probation Department officer at Centeno-Baez’s residence, he was questioned about a brown paper bag found in the kitchen. Centeno-Baez admitted the bag contained heroin and confessed to drug trafficking activities. A search of his home led to the discovery of fentanyl, tramadol tablets, methamphetamine, marijuana, digital scales, $46,550 in cash, and ammunition.
The sentencing followed an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration under Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarentino of the New York Field Division and the United States Probation Office directed by Chief Probation Officer Timothy C. Englerth.
