U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe | U.S. Department of Justice

Daniel James Riggs, 31, made his initial appearance in Fort Lauderdale on charges of enticement of a minor and production of child pornography. The complaint alleges that Riggs, a tennis coach for the victim, engaged in inappropriate conversations with the minor through a social media app and sexually abused the victim during domestic and international travels for tennis activities. Additionally, Riggs reportedly requested child sexual abuse material from the victim using multiple anonymous profiles and advised the victim to delete their communications.

Social media records have suggested another potential victim. Authorities urge anyone with information about further victims to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

A pretrial detention hearing is set for December 23 at 11:00 a.m. U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe, Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey B. Veltri of the FBI Miami Field Office, and Sheriff Gregory Tony of Broward Sheriff's Office announced these charges. The investigation was conducted by FBI Miami and BSO, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Camille Smith prosecuting.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse since May 2006. This program aims to utilize federal, state, and local resources to locate offenders who exploit children online while identifying and rescuing victims.
