An Army National Guard soldier is facing murder charges following a shooting incident at Fort Eisenhower. Natravien Landry, 25, from Abbeville, Louisiana, appeared in court for an initial hearing on Monday. U.S. Attorney Jill E. Steinberg confirmed that Landry has been charged with one count of murder.
Landry, assigned to the 1148th Transportation Company at Fort Eisenhower, allegedly visited a woman's residence on December 14th. The woman shares a child with him. He is accused of assaulting and shooting a man present in the home before leaving the scene.
Authorities arrested Landry approximately three hours later during a traffic stop on Interstate 85 south of Atlanta. Deputies from the Meriwether County Sheriff's Office recovered a 9 mm pistol during the arrest.
The U.S. Marshals Service subsequently took Landry into custody and transported him to Lincoln County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
Criminal complaints are not proof of guilt; defendants remain innocent until proven otherwise.
The investigation is being conducted by the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division. The case is prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Henry W. Syms Jr., Patricia G. Rhodes, Kelsey L. Scanlon, and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Capt. Jacqueline M. Stryker for the Southern District of Georgia.
