On October 10, 2024, twelve participants will be honored for completing the 4th Judicial District Recovery "Drug" Court in Colorado Springs. This program serves El Paso and Teller counties and began in January 2001 as Colorado's second drug problem-solving court. The ceremony will take place at the Terry R. Harris Judicial Complex.
The graduates have shown dedication to their recovery journey through this rigorous treatment court, designed for those involved with the criminal justice system due to substance use. Participants maintained abstinence from substances, engaged in required treatments, and met educational and employment goals set by the court's clinical team. They also underwent regular reviews by Magistrate Gregory K. Duncan.
Magistrate Duncan expressed his pride in the graduates: “We are honored and excited to celebrate the graduation of 12 amazing individuals from the Recovery 'Drug' Court program. Over the past two-plus years, these graduates have established and maintained sobriety, becoming law-abiding, self-sufficient, and productive community members.”
The Recovery "Drug" Court is modeled after evidence-based drug courts effective in handling criminal cases. It aims to redirect nonviolent felony offenders into a structured program involving treatment, monitoring, and case management.
These programs are crucial resources for communities by aiding individuals struggling with addiction toward recovery. The court team engages deeply with each participant's life, offering support and accountability.
