Drew Mitchell Schreiber from Orlando, Florida, has pleaded guilty to three counts of odometer tampering in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Schreiber, who owns Central Florida Automotive Group, now called Southeastern Credit Union Solutions in Winter Garden, Florida, was involved in purchasing high-mileage vehicles from auctions across the state. These vehicles had their odometers rolled back by as much as 428,000 miles before being resold to unsuspecting dealers and consumers.

The fraudulent activity led to the sale of 140 vehicles with altered mileage readings. Many of these cars were over ten years old and were sold with "exempt" titles that did not disclose their actual mileage.

Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton stated, “Just because a motor vehicle may be exempt from mileage recording on a title does not give a dealer the right to roll back odometers.” He emphasized that used car buyers deserve accurate information about their vehicle's mileage.

A sentencing hearing for Schreiber will be scheduled later. The sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.

The case was investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Office of Odometer Fraud Investigation. Trial Attorney David Sullivan from the Civil Division’s Consumer Protection Branch and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kara Wick for the Middle District of Florida prosecuted the case.
