A Tampa man has been found guilty by a federal jury of threatening to destroy a building using an explosive. Rigoberto Albizar Martinez, 57, faces up to 10 years in federal prison following his conviction. The sentencing date has not yet been determined.

Court documents reveal that on May 1, 2024, Martinez left a voicemail at the Tampa district office of a U.S. House Representative. The message was described as vulgar and racist, containing threats to plant a bomb in the office.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Capitol Police – Threat Assessment Section. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Karyna Valdes and Special Assistant United States Attorney Joe Wheeler III.
