The North Central Problem-Solving Court is set to hold a graduation ceremony on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. The event will take place in the Custer County Courtroom at the Custer County Justice Center in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Judge Karin Noakes will preside over the ceremony.

This graduation marks an important milestone for participants who have completed an intensive program aimed at providing comprehensive behavioral health treatment and community supervision. The program focuses on nonviolent drug-related offenders and operates within the existing court structure as an alternative path through the criminal justice system.

Problem-solving courts aim to reduce recidivism and substance use among individuals with substance use disorders by using a specialized team process. This approach includes validated risk and need assessments, early individualized behavioral health treatment, frequent chemical testing, incentives, sanctions, and other rehabilitative services.

Doug Stanton, the North Central Problem-Solving Court Coordinator, is available for interviews or additional information regarding the event. He can be contacted at 402-340-3461.

The adult drug court graduation reflects efforts to protect public safety while increasing participants' chances of successful rehabilitation. More details about problem-solving courts can be found on their webpage.

In Nebraska's judicial system, all state courts operate under the administrative direction of the Supreme Court. Apart from those established by the Constitution—Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, district courts, and county courts—the state also has separate juvenile courts in Douglas, Lancaster, and Sarpy Counties and a statewide Workers’ Compensation Court.
